Frequently Asked Questions
1. I am a doctor/nurse/medical student, and I would like to go on a mission abroad with the MEDEVAC Programme. Is this possible?
The MEDEVAC Programme carries out its activities in cooperation with Czech hospitals through which medical teams of various specializations are deployed abroad. Based on the needs of the given mission or training, the specific composition of the team is usually determined by the lead doctor and is subject to approval by the hospital’s management. Therefore, MEDEVAC does not recruit individual healthcare professionals and participation is only possible within these long-standing partner teams. We do however truly appreciate your interest and support.
2. I need medical care for myself or a loved one. Can I apply to the MEDEVAC Programme for medical evacuation to the Czech Republic?
MEDEVAC was established over 30 years ago as a tool for evacuating injured patients to the Czech Republic for treatment (hence its name). However its nature has changed over time, and it now focuses almost exclusively on deploying Czech medical teams abroad and on training healthcare professionals. Evacuations are now carried out in truly exceptional cases, and unfortunately, we will most likely be unable to assist you.
If you are a Czech citizen abroad, please contact the embassy/Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. I would like to receive medical treatment for myself/a loved one during a MEDEVAC mission.
Patients selection is always concluded in cooperation with our local partner hospital. This hospital is primarily responsible for patient screening as well as the overall treatment, as Czech medical professionals arrive as experts for a limited period of time. If you have a medical issue, please contact your physician or your local hospital.
4. How is the MEDEVAC Programme funded? Can I support it in any way?
As a government programme, MEDEVAC is funded through the state budget and cannot be financed by donors. The Programme’s priorities are subject to annual approval by the government.
