MEDEVAC Programme in Belarus
The MEDEVAC Programme provided assistance to injured or persecuted citizens of Belarus in the years 2020 and 2021. During these years, two stages of evacuations took place, during which a total of 89 persons (48 directly selected persons and their 41 family members) were accepted into the Czech Republic. Both of these stages took place under a government resolution.
The MEDEVAC Programme is not currently active in Belarus.
2020
- Evacuation of a total of 60 persons (35 patients, 25 family members) who were provided with medical and psychological care. These persons were transported to the Czech Republic under Government Resolution No. 878 of 24 August 2020 when the MEDEVAC Programme started to carry out humanitarian evacuations of Belarusian citizens persecuted by the regime of Alexandr Lukashenko.
- Other Ministries (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports), Czech partner hospitals (the Hradec Králové University Hospital, the Královské Vinohrady University Hospital, the Motol University Hospital, the Bulovka University Hospital, the General University Hospital in Prague, the Central Military Hospital), psychologists from the Fire Rescue Service and the Police of the Czech Republic, Refugee Facilities Administration, Caritas of the Archdiocese of Prague and the Belarusian diaspora in the Czech Republic.
2021
- With Resolution No. 95 of 1 February 2021, the Government of the CR approved admission of selected healthcare professionals and their family members from Belarus into the Czech Republic. There were 13 Belarusian healthcare professionals, along with their 16 family members (a total of 29 persons), admitted into the country under this Resolution as part of the MEDEVAC Programme.
- For the accepted persons, the MEDEVAC Programme arranged their trip to the Czech Republic, their accommodation, basic material support, introductory Czech language courses and support in the process of recognising the equivalence of their education.
